will

Where there's a will...

Unfortunately, all too often, there isn't one.  Two in three people die without leaving a Will, unaware of the problems that may cause for the family and friends they leave behind.

Even if you feel you do not have sufficient assets to make it worthwhile making a Will, you are probably worth more than you realise.

Whether you are married or living as a couple, you cannot assume your assets will be divided as you would wish unless you make a will.

By making a Will you can be sure exactly where your money and possessions will go.  For example, you may wish to leave specific items of sentimental value to particular family members or friends, or wish to make provision for a charity in which you have special interest.

By making a Will you can nominate legal guardians of any children under 18 years, which is particularly important for one parent families or unmarried parents living together.  Without a Will, the Court may have to decide the future of your children and the result may not be what you or they would wish.

By making a Will you can minimise the amount of tax your family may have to pay after your death.  With the current Inheritance Tax threshold at £325,000.00 (£650,000.00) for married couples and civil partners) and the current value of property, increasing numbers of estates are becoming liable to this tax.

Making a Will may mean having to address uncomfortable family issues.  We can talk these through with you in a sympathetic and professional manner.

Making a Will is not expensive and it can be changed at any time.  In fact we recommend a regular review.  We will store your Will for you free of charge to minimise the possibility of its becoming lost or damaged, and provide you with a photocopy.

By making a Will you can give yourself peace of mind knowing that your affairs are in order and show your family you cared enough to sort things out in advance and spare them unnecessary worry at what will already be a distressing time.

Here at the Turner Cary Partnership, we know how time consuming and distressing it can be to have to wind up the affairs of a close relative or friend at a time when you feel least able to deal with these matters.  We offer a comprehensive, sympathetic and cost effective probate service to help you through this difficult time.

Often, in these circumstances, you may become aware there is no Will.  Two in three people die without leaving a Will, unaware of the problems that may cause for the family and friends they leave behind.

Turner Cary Partnership offers a professional Will writing service tailored to your particular needs, bearing in mind your financial and family circumstances.  We can also provide tax planning and financial advice in conjunction with trusted external advisors.

Unfortunately, disputes can sometimes arise between family members following the death of a relative.  The combined skills of Turner Cary Partnership's probate and litigation departments can offer assistance at whatever level or stage of proceedings with sensitivity and understanding.

We can also assist with the registration of existing Enduring Powers of Attorney and advise on the recently introduced Lasting Powers of Attorney to safeguard the interests of yourself or others in the event of long term illness or disability.
